Substance Before Style (or: "Well, it doesn't look THAT bad")

So I've been sitting here pondering how to make my triumphant return to the blogosphere (what a ridiculous word), and sitting around thinking never really gets one anywhere, so I'm just jumping right on in. Cue the trumpets and rolled-out red carpet, you guys.

I've been cooking more than usual lately (read: my boyfriend and I were getting tired of living on fast food, frozen pizzas, and ice cream as 99% of our diet... but holy crap do I ever love that stuff), and I keep thinking, "MAN OH MAN, this would be fantastic on the ol' food blog!" So when I made chicken tortilla soup a la Pioneer Woman last week, I took pictures of every single step, thinking, "Oh man, seriously, people are going to love this stuff!" And then I looked at the pictures and realized that it looked like a small child took them. One with no concept of lighting, or perspective, or angles, or really anything related to nicely-composed photographs. Never mind the fact that my plating skills are worse than if I were on Chopped and had 30 seconds to throw everything on a plate and hope for the best.  Yes, it was a bowl of soup, and yes, it technically photographed decently, but I definitely wouldn't get any praise from Scott Conant (that man is one tough cookie).

But I'm not going to let that get in the way of posting the various nomz I've been making. For real, this stuff is too good not to share (for the most part). Having said that... don't expect gorgeous photos with perfect lighting and vibrant colors and stuff. My skill set is, quite frankly, not there yet (if it ever will be). The food stuffs I'm making is super delicious and generally not THAT involved (cause I am one lazy lady), so the substance is definitely there. Yeah, it's not all foodie and gorgeous, and the photos will earn me exactly zero awards or repins, but who cares? I like cooking, and I like eating, and I want the whole world to know that. Or at least my friends list.

Coming soon to a poorly-lit and out-of-focus blog near you: Chicken Tortilla Soup (rated Y for YUMMY IN YOUR TUMMY).
